2 + 18 + 6 = 8 OWH Cards!

Hi, Ron from Club Scrap here - Happy Thursday! You might look at the title of this blog and think that my math is off, but let me explain…

OWH Sketch 2 + OWH Sketch 18 + 6 sheets of paper = 8 really cool cards!

This is all Tricia's fault (not that that's a bad thing!) - she's written a few posts about making some wonderful cards for Operation Write Home and so I decided to sit down and see if I could come up with my own cutting formula 'a la Tricia.' Picking two simpler sketches meant that I could get all the parts and pieces cut for 8 cards using only 6 pieces of 8-1/2x11" paper - how cool is that?

Of course once I figured out the cutting instructions, I had to find time to actually make the cards - but I'm in Wisconsin this week for Club Scrap's October Retreat -  and that's when my friend (and CS® Member) Julie Heyer came to my rescue! Using my instructions, Julie cut and assembled 8 cards in record time using 4 sheets of paper from the Papillon Stamp kit and a sheet each of black and white from her stash!
6 sheets of paper = 8 cards!

Here's what you'll need:
(6) 8.5x11 Papers, all different
12" Paper Trimmer
Scoring Tool and Bone Folder
Inks, Stamps, & other Embellies

Here's how to cut:
Trim 4 of the papers horizontally at 5.5".  Score and fold one of each color horizontally at 4.25" and set them aside - these are your first 4 card bases. Trim each of the remaining 5.5x8.5 pieces horizontally at 7, 4.5, and 2". Trim one 2.5x5.5 horizontally at 3.5 and the other 2.5x5.5 horizontally at 4". Trim the 1.5x5.5 horizontally at 4.5, 3, and 1.5".

Cut the remaining two 8.5x11 Papers horizontally at 5.5". Score and fold each 5.5x8.5 horizontally at 4.25". (Or you can use Tricia's easy-peasy way and first score the 8.5x11 sheet vertically at 4.25", and then trim horizontally at 5.5". Score once; cut once!) This step will give you the four extra card bases.

Sort the cards and pieces by size, using the OWH sketches as a guide (yeah, there will be a few scraps - you may want to stamp sentiments or images on them and use them as extra pieces on your cards, cut them up really small to use as confetti at your next party, or just toss 'em - totally up to you!).
These are the scraps you'll have left!
All the parts and pieces for making 8 cards
Now assemble the cards, inking edges, stamping images, adding extra embellishments as you'd like. Julie used some paper clay pieces that she made to decorate her cards, CS ink pads in Sapphire, Amethyst, Topaz, & Leaf,  several stamps from a variety of CS kits, and some fibers and embellies from her stash.

Okay, wasn't that easy? Next time you have a few minutes, make some cards and send them to Operation Write Home- 'cuz we want our servicemen and women to have the very best! (And Special Thanks to Julie for helping me out with this, and to Tricia for inspiring me to try this! It was lots of fun and I'll definitely be doing it again!)
