A Note from Tricia

Every week, our entire staff meets to review our schedule, goals, marketing ideas, tasks, etc. I love our get-togethers because we always walk away with a renewed sense of purpose and focus.

Then, once a year, we set aside an entire day when we look at membership growth, club kit components, comments and feedback, and brainstorm new ideas and programs for the coming year. (This is separate from the annual kit theme/color scheme planning meeting.) My favorite part of this annual meeting is the healthy food. It's an essential component to our brainstorming!

This year's annual meeting produced many changes and I'm eager to share them with you.
  1. Streamlined Membership Processing.
This is a banner occasion for our dear Kristin, who has literally spent years on this project. Our entire staff will be working on New Year's Day to transfer data from our antiquated membership processing platform to the very same area where all other shopping takes place. You will at last be maintaining your membership options and information in one location . . . the “my account” link in the store! In addition, you will now earn loyalty points on your membership fees. Your rewards will add up quickly!

  2. Discontinued Items.
Your shopping and membership habits indicate what you enjoy most, and well . . . what you enjoy sporadically. Two of our lowest performers are being eliminated from the monthly line-up of CS offerings.

As the unmounted rubber accumulates for us veteran collectors, we will no longer be offering the 5.5x8.5” FontArt sheet. Those of you currently receiving this item have already been notified of this change and your account will be adjusted. We will continue to offer the remaining four sheets: Collection UM, Art Nouveau, Greeting and Borders & Backgrounds.

The monthly Club Stamp project will be discontinued, and the Club Stamp kit configuration will be an all-inclusive membership without an option. It will include the 6.5x8.5” Collection UM and a 12-pack of paper featuring four printed sheets and eight plain sheets plus an additional fiber or embellishment. The new kit price is $21.95 plus $7.95 s/h. All “a la carte” options including Greetings to Go are still available for this membership at no additional shipping cost. The kit will ship US Priority Mail Flat Rate unless additional “with kit” orders require a box. Our team will continue to design additional projects on a regular basis and will release them along with how-to videos and instructions via the store. Those of you currently receiving the Club Stamp kit will receive an additional email about these changes in plenty of time to make any requested adjustments.

  3. Spoiler Opt-In.
Enjoy getting a full preview of the coming month's four complete unmounted stamp plates in advance of the kit release. Members, watch for an email invitation to “Opt In” for this spoiler, and it will be sent in time for you to adjust your order, if you wish.

  4. Assembly Line Boot Camp
Our PSL (Pro Scrapbookers League) has been a five-year tradition at Club Scrap. The initial goal was to inspire our members to add photos to their completed ALSB pages. While we begin renovations on the Coffeehouse Forum and Galleria, it is necessary that we use a more reliable platform for our winter activity as well as reduce the hundreds of hours required to run the event. You can look forward to eight weeks of challenges, inspiration and comaraderie while we unite as “one team” to raise funds for Operation Write Home. There will be random prizes, and your chance of winning increases with the number of entries you submit. Each entry will also initiate a Club Scrap donation to a worthy cause. All scrapbookers, card makers, project lovers and digi folks are welcome to join us! Watch for more details to come.
I hope you know we never make changes without lengthy consideration, deliberation and awareness of how they may impact your membership. We value and appreciate your continued loyalty and participation in this Club.

To a wonderful and inspiring 2014!
Tricia

  1. WOW that is a lot to digest! Will there be anything in Club Stamp besides just paper and a sheet of stamps? Otherwise you just effectively raised the price of CST by $7 a month.

  2. I am excited for the changes! The spoiler Opt-in is very exciting! Wishing you had it for this month's kit. Dying to see the rest of the kit. I am also thrilled for Boot Camp! I was ready for PSL to get a shake up! Looking forward to the New Year!

  3. Congratulations on a successful day of brainstorming and eating. Sounds like you all have your work cut out for you.

  4. Kim took the words right out of my mouth, "Wow, that's a lot to digest!" I love how you're always getting together and examining current practices, popular/not so popular options, tech needs/requirements/limitations. That's what the best business practices warrant. Since I don't get the Club Stamp, I'm not as affected by the change. I'm looking forward to seeing how Boot Camp plays out! It's something new and different, and one of the things I'm trying to do in the midst of my middle age, is embrace new experiences!!! Thank goodness, Club Scrap is providing me with lots of opportunities to do so!!! :)

  5. I'm sort of excited for a fun group-y PSL instead of a more cutthroat version :). I'm also excited about the stamp spoilers so I can adjust my order, I'll miss the occasional project but heaven knows I have about 200 ready for completion at home already! Thanks for the major info...

  6. These changes have taken a lot of thought and research as well as a ton of coffee, etc. I'll have to check out the "boot camp" as I agree with "Queen of Dishing" it does sound a little "Less cutthroat". I also have drawers full of undone, "had to have" projects that I need to get busy with, and I look forward to seeing what all you come up with. Lately, due to some personal issues, I haven't been able to order a regular Scrap or Stamp kit, but I do still get the digi kits and am hoping to be able to start getting more "paper" kits soon.

  7. Thanks for keeping us in the loop Tricia. Change is not always easy, but it's encouraging when you see someone like Club Scrap embracing it with customers' and members' best interests at heart. Over the past year I've really noticed how CS is incorporating change for the better (in my opinion), like focusing on this blog so they can more easily reach a wider audience and being on trend with their products and goodies (hello neon inks and the wood veneer, for example).I think these changes leave room for CS to show us bigger and better things, so I can't wait to see what 2014 holds for us!

  8. Boot Camp - yikes - sounds scary - lol - but I'm in for anything that helps me complete pages - can't wait to see what it is!

I hope the Club Stamp changes are worked out to keep the members happy - it's the only membership I don't get, but I like to see everyone happy with what they are getting. We've had a lot of changes lately and I know some folks have trouble with change - I don't want to lose any of my CS friends over this!

  9. Hats off to all of you for the great SWOT analysis! The membership navigation changes are so welcome. I especially am cheering about the spoiler UM peek that can ship with the kit! I know that will increase my UM orders...uh, oh...

  10. Thank you for the open communication, Tricia! I'm sure those yearly meetings are tough, but CS is not a successful business because they stayed with the "same routine". I'm excited about the Opt in option! Looking forward to boot camp!

  11. Thank you,Tricia, for keeping us up to date. Changes mean you are growing.Nothing ever stays the same over so many years and I am sure you all have thought about this hard and long. We will see what happens.I hope it inspires us all to be creative!
Happy New Year to you and everyone at Club Scrap.

  12. Thank you for keeping us updated. I love getting my Club Stamp kit - You have such quality products & wonderful designs. I realize that you have to streamline in order to keep costs down. I will definately 'opt in' to be updated on new kits to get everything that I want/'need'. When there is an extra project that i like (and I usually like all of them!) I will certainly buy it. I am just so glad that CS has been able to stay in business when alot of other companies in the paper arts industry have not been able to. Thank you for continually adapting & changing so that your customers can continue to enjoy such a creative & quaulity product!

  15. As a non-Member but PASSIONATE fan of CS, I just want to say thank you for continuing to be so inclusive to those of us who buy and participate as we wish. My stash may not be quite as large as some, but I still appreciate every single piece and all the creativity, time and effort spent on the products by those at HQ. Happy New Year to all!

  16. Wow! There certainly is a lot in this post! Here are my first impressions.

    Streamlined membership...great!
poiler opt-in...perfection! I joined Club Stamp mainly to allow me plenty of time to add extra rubber that spoke to me to my monthly kit. I absolutely LOVE this!

Boot camp...good call. I stopped participating in PSL because I was getting frustrated. Increasing my odds of getting a prize and helping a worthy cause through my own efforts? I like it.

No more Font Art...logical and I think we've been headed in this direction for quite some time.

No more Stamp Project...also logical. I have so many projects waiting that I should be happy about this BUT...I'm not thrilled about the new price and, most importantly, the shipping change. I usually order enough "with kit" to make a FedEx box necessary but trusting my treasures to the USPS is not an option for me...they've burned me too many times for me to trust them.

  17. I'd like to make a suggestion. Put the monthly stencil in the list of add-ons. As a Stamp member, the only way to get them is in a separate order and in months where I don't need anything else extra I often talk myself out of paying $2 shipping on a $3 item.

    1. I would SO do this! I miss the stencil when it ships with the alternating kit. :)

  18. Thank you so much Tricia for keeping us informed of the changes that are coming. While I must admit I felt sad at first to be losing Font Art, I completely understand that as a business you need to do what makes the most sense business wise. Obviously you've done an outstanding job of that in the past 14 years, because Club Scrap is still in business and going strong while so many other companies have bit the dust.

I'm thrilled Club Scrap is still here all these years later since I joined in 2000, because honestly I don't know what I'd do without you. I can't praise CS more highly if I tried. You've elevated my scrapbooking to an entire different level with the supplies you offer and all of the things you've taught me over the years. The new changes sound exciting. Especially the Opt In and the PSL.

  19. Thank you for making it possible for me to omit the Club Stamp project and Fonts rubber. I have so many stamps and un-made projects, I'm out of room! But I can't let myself miss anything! PSL will be more workable for me, since I don't have a lot of time to participate during the school year. I won't feel as guilty about my sporadic participation. I'm so excited to get the 2014 installment of my addiction!! I'm sure it will be as spectacular as always!

  20. OMG.... I am sad & crying.... I love Club Stamp Projects, so much, I order an extra project with my kit every month. I keep one for myself & make the other, to give as a gift. I am happy for club scrap sucess & can not rave enough on the quality & scrumshus designs.. But I am saddened that the changes being made, i will not be using. I dont have the time to blog (honestly learn how to blog) dont know about coffee house, and PSL, I am a crafter that cant wait for my kits to come, dive in to see all the goodies & when i have time I sit in my scrapboom & follow the terrific direction that come with these beautiful things. I must be the odd ball of the family. I have all these 8 1/2 x11 papers that come with club stamp, and dont know what to do with them. I suggested in the questionare, if you can give some kinda project or alsb to go with them every month. I wish you all the best in your new adventure. Im off to buy stampers projects to stock up for gifts. thank you for all the great years of doing them, you all are brilliant.

    1. I'm sorry you're so upset, Heather! The thing that is upsetting you is the exact thing that is making me feel relieved! I have sooooo many projects that I haven't even opened. Maybe I can send them to you if you agree to pay for the postage. I have stuff all the way back to the first Stamp kit. Not in any good order, mind you, bagged and stuffed into various corners of my craft area, but I could probably dig up at least a few dozen projects for you to work on. Nancy K

    2. I have TONS of un-started projects still in un-opened in their original bags. Some from the stamp kits. Some from the regular kits. Maybe we should arrange a trade. :D

I joined CS 14 years ago and quit getting monthly kits 5 years ago because the stacks were getting too high (remember the Hoarder shirts--I still have mine). The one thing I always struggled with were the projects because I rarely do anything that isn't directly going in my book so they've just stacked up over the years. Thanks for understanding. I also agree with the stencils. I LOVE the stencils and am still trying to track down some I missed (2008-2012). I've also been thrilled with the swatch sheets and they've helped me find stuff many times. Thanks for your hard work, Tricia, and all of the staff over the years.

  25. So glad you're willing to make changes. It is a lot to digest, so I've been thinking it over. I love to see the changes to PSL and that you are taking a good scrub on the kit, membership and rubber. I'm sad to see the stamp project go, but I look at this as an opportunity to provide different types and levels of project instead. I think Kay will keep projects going and this will allow for more options or component only kits.

  26. Tricia. Thank you for sharing this message with us. I think it is important for all CS members to keep in mind that while this is a club and a source of great fun for all of us, CS is still a business. It supports many families. It must grow with the industry in order to continue to be relevant. And it must eliminate unprofitable product offerings to remain in business. I am pleased as punch with the changes CS has made in the last year or so. I love that so much is online now. I never have to worry about where I put my Scrap Rap - it's always available online. I love the new goodies that are coming our way - the embossing folders are great! And I love that CS is making available new items such as the Envelope Punch Board. This has been one fabulous tool and I would MUCH rather buy thru CS than any other vendor.

  30. Thanks for All the info !! Lol. I have come to LUV CS as a family - CS staff and members. It's so cool to travel out of town and be able to meet up with fellow club scrappers ;)
I'm also sad about losing the monthly project ( which I don't get ) but I think that means when a CS project does come out it will be a definite "wow" kit since they will have more time to develop them .
The opt in email is great and I look forward to the new PSL form . ......
    Can't wait for retreat !!

  31. Love the spoiler opt and I like getting the stencil but wouldn't mind not having to pay shipping on it if I could get it with my CS kit each month even when it's in the Lite kit. Thanks for bringing us quality paper crafting. I love Club Scrap.
