Welcome, Operation Write Home guests! I'm honored to be a part of today's hop. (To start at the beginning, go HERE.)
Club Scrap has supported Operation Write Home for several years by hosting card drives, participating in hops and raising funds to help cover the cost of postage. I'm proud to support OWH on a personal level, too, as I have family members who currently serve or have served in the military. I get a great deal of satisfaction from using my love of papercrafting to help those serving overseas communicate with their families back home.
For today's hop, we were challenged to create a red, white and blue card using one of the hundreds of card sketches provided on the OWH website. I chose Bonus Sketch #31 for my card because I liked the simplicity (and potential versatility) of the design.
Here's the sketch:
I also wanted to try my hand at creating an Assembly Line Cardmaking (ALCM) formula. ALCM formulas are designed to help you crank out these sketch-inspired cards quickly and efficiently, with very little waste. (Thanks for your help, Tricia Morris, I couldn't have done this without you!!!)
To start, grab three coordinating 8.5x11" papers. The instructions below will yield three 4.25x5.5" (A2) cards. Just add stamping and other embellishments as desired.
1. Trim 8.5x11 Papers A, B, and C horizontally at 5.5".
2. Cut one 5.5x8.5 horizontally at 5.75 and 4".
3. Trim the 4x5.5 horizontally at 5.25".
4. Cut the 1.75x5.5 horizontally at 5.25".
5. Trim the 2.75x5.5 horizontally at 3".
6. Score and fold the 5.5x8.5 horizontally at 4.25".
My cutting formula includes a matte for the 2.5x2.75" piece, which is not shown on the OWH sketch. You can skip it, but I think it adds a little sumthin'-sumthin'.

Once all the cutting is completed, sort and arrange the components, alternating the colors so each card has red, white and blue elements. There's really no "right" or "wrong" way . . . just have fun with it! Once you're happy with the arrangement, add stamping and other embellishments. I used stamps from Club Scrap's May Dungarees collection. The "denim" theme pairs well with the red, white and blue, don't you think?

|Adding white gel pen to the stamped sentiment really makes the letters pop!|
|Don't you just love a good pun?|
Now, are you ready for some blog candy? Since this weekend's theme is red, white and blue, Club Scrap is giving away a Salute paper collection to one lucky winner. The Salute collection features--you guessed it--red, white and blue papers along with patriotic artwork. Scrappers will love creating the ten 12x12 scrapbook pages with our free page assembly instructions. Stampers and card makers can create dozens of cards from the richly-textured printed and plain papers. To qualify for the prize, simply leave a comment below. On Tuesday, May 27, we'll chose one comment at random, and that person will receive the Salute Collection free. Good luck!
