Have you ever heard of Shark Week? Since it airs on the Discovery Channel in August, you only have to wait about 216 more days to watch it. In the meantime . . .
It's Font Week at Club Scrap!
Holy smokes. I think we're crazy. Did I read that right? 90% off? This nutty sale ends on Monday, January 14, 2013. So, you can shop today for the best selection, and then tell your friends about it after you check out.
If you don't know how to use unmounted stamps, you might want to take a look at this how-to video. I love that they take up far less space than traditional wood mounted stamps.
Unmounted alphabet stamps pose a unique set of challenges, but also have awesome advantages. For example, unlike alphabet stickers, you never run out of letters!!! Don't you just hate that when you're trying to spell out "Emily's Excellent Adventures" and it looks like " mily's xc ll nt Adv ntur s"? Ugggh. If you're using stamps, that will NEVER happen.
Using UM fonts is also less time consuming and costly than punching or cutting and adhering letters from expensive hand held or electronic die cutting equipment. Since my patience level is generally on the low side of things, stamping out a page title with UM fonts runs at my peak, but I always enjoy the results. No tweezers or mini glue pens required!
Rather than take tons of photos to demonstrate my love for UM fonts, I decided to whip out the video camera, solicit Kay's assistance, and head to the studio. It's been a while.

Love the tip about leaving a row of letters until you need them!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right Tricia! There are definitely a time and place for using UM fonts. My favorites are the Generations Font. So grungy!
ReplyDeleteStocked up at the sale - wow!
ReplyDeleteLove the vid and use my fonts a lot. Thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteAnnetteD
I love using my fonts! I use my Concrete Jungle ones all the time. I love heat embossing with the UM fonts - you can't do that with stickers!
ReplyDeleteLove the concrete jungle font - one of my favorite to use! Thanks for the reminder on how to make them work!
ReplyDeleteGreat tips Tricia, thanks. I don't think I use my fonts nearly enough.
ReplyDeleteI love!
ReplyDeleteI love!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy watching your video's. They always make me want to create something right away. Thanks, JIL
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder video, Tricia -- those fonts get very overlooked at my house. I particularly love the decorated envelope! Must do that more...
ReplyDeleteTricia: My favorite part of the video was when you stamped the last 'a' in Grandma and it was orange/tangerine. Your comment was so cute—and you just go with the flow. I love Concrete Jungle EVERYTHING. I just ordered more of the Chrome sheets last night as a matter of fact.
ReplyDeleteNow off to dig out my UM fonts and make some page titles. Thanks for the inspiration Tricia...as always!
Too funny--I thought of you when that happened. But I figure, if it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone, so I might as well just go with it!
DeleteI didn't use fonts often enough, until I saw this video:-)
ReplyDeleteSharon R/Yooper
thanks for the video!
ReplyDeleteI discovered UM fonts during my PSL and love love love em - thanks to KnitterPam for hooking me up with my first ones (but certainly not my last)!
ReplyDeleteThank you, KnitterPam!
DeleteI love your tip on adding the adhesive before cutting. I always cut out all the letters, then try to put the adhesive on each one. And the idea of leaving them in strips until you need to use them is great! I have a few sheets of unmounted fonts that I have not touched because it was too much work. And then I don't use them because they are ready when I need them. I can't wait to start using them now.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that helped. I think it did it the other way just one time, and that was all it took! Leaving them in strips works great for when I want to use the letters as art elements, too. But when I cut them into individual letters, I always do a super-neat job of it because I'm more focused on the title I'm creating. I'm so glad you'll give it a try this way!
DeleteThis is a great time to stock up and at these prices I order more than one sheet of my favorite font so I have extra of those most used letters. This way I can stamp out longer words with multiples of letters all at once!
ReplyDeleteCool idea, Anne Marie! :)
DeleteDarn you, Anne Marie! I'm off to GHM to buy duplicates!!
DeleteI love my UM fonts! And you can never have too many!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the helpful video! I love using unmounted fonts because i can actually see where I'm stamping and I will have to look for some Mount-It adhesive to use!
ReplyDeleteTricia - thanks for the great video! I have a mental block on UM Fonts ... hopefully this will help inspire me :).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the video! I especially LOVE the 'Grandma" envelope.
ReplyDeleteAwesome ideas! Thank you for the push to use my um fonts.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the video! I will be using my fonts a lot more.
ReplyDeleteI've never actually tried using UM fonts because it seemed so daunting. Your video took a lot of the mystery out of it. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad it helped, Beth! Happy to be that mystery solver. :)

My resolutions this year was to make a list of projects in the works and finish those first. My unmounted stamps is in that list. I think I really like the binder idea and cutting the sheets in strips. This will save me some time. I love the colorful envelopes. Nice touch to a plain envelope. Thanks for the video of tips. Tami
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI will have to pull these out more as well! These short tutorials are so helpful!
