Filmstrip Fun

Okay, I am even surprising myself here! I used my filmstrip die twice in one month, WOW. Check out this blog post where I made a homemade embossing plate.

Next I will use it to create an embellishment for layouts 7&8 from the Cinema ALSB.

1. Create an 8.5x11 print using Time of Your Life and Cinema digital kits.

2. Print image onto plain white paper.

3. Trim a 1.75x11" strip and attach to one sticky side of a piece of double sided sticker paper (goodie included in the Fire and Ice kit).

4. Die cut the filmstrip from hybrid paper + sticker sheet.

5. Remove backing paper and attach to your layout. TIP: I reattached my filmstrip "sticker" to the uncut backing sheet and inked the edges to create more dimension.

6. Adhere die cut embellishments to scrapbook pages.

Easy Digital Hybrid Cards, Part 2

In my last blog (CLICK HERE if you missed it), I showed you how to create a few simple hybrid cards using the Picnic Digital Kit. Truth be told, in the course of figuring out what those cards would look like, I printed out a few extra sheets of that paper, including one with the blue checkerboard background. Being the true hoarder crafter that I am, I kept those extra sheets and have been looking for a different way to use them..

Then, I saw Tricia's post - New Formulas for Picnic Papers - and I was inspired. Thanks, Tricia!

I took those extra backgrounds and cut some into 1" squares and punched some into 1" circles.

I arranged them on two card bases made from one sheet of the 8.5x11 Dark Green paper from the Club Stamp kit. They looked okay, but I felt something was missing. I thought about inking the edges, but then saw a piece of sand paper on my craft table and thought, "Hmmm, would that work?" You bet it did!
I'm sure you have some kind of sanding tool in your craft supplies - I have several!
I really like that shabby, sanded look and it's so easy to achieve with digital background paper that you make yourself! This technique will work with the printed text weight paper in the Club Stamp kit, but be careful - if you sand too hard, you'll go right through the paper. (Go ahead. Ask me how I know.) That white edge really makes the shapes pop on the dark card base.

I had a little extra space on the left card, but a 1/4" strip of green filled that nicely!
For the sentiments, I simply flipped a few pieces over and stamped on the white side. Yup, I actually stamped those, although you could print out the digital stamps and then cut or punch as needed.

So there you have it . . . two more quick and easy hybrid cards. I hope you'll give this a try.

Until next time, thanks for stopping by!

Easy Digital Hybrid Cards, Picnic-Style!

You know how much I love digital, but I need to play with paper every once in a while. When I saw the art in the Picnic Digital Kit, I knew that I could do both! The graphics are bold with fairly simple lines, so they can be used as cut-outs for a hybrid card without too much 'fussiness' with a scissors.

To make these two Picnic Hybrid cards, you'll need two sheets of letter-sized card stock, your favorite layout program (I'm using Photoshop CC), and a printer, plus your usual card-making tools: paper trimmer, scissors (or craft knife and ruler), and some adhesive. Let's get started . . .

1. Create a new 8.5x11 document, 300ppi, white background (in Photoshop, you can use the US Letter Preset).

2. Pull out horizontal and vertical guidelines to divide the page into four 4.25x5.5" quadrants.

3. Open the Pink 'watermelon' background and drag it onto your new document. Resize it to fit into one quadrant.

4. Repeat step 3 with the 'lime' and 'multi-stripe' backgrounds.

5. Open 0614PicnicCSD_StampGraphics3.png and 0614PicnicCSD_Xtra04.png and use the marquee tool to select the desired sentiments and images to drag them into the blank quadrant. Note: I enlarged some of the items and rotated them to fit.

6. Print artwork onto one sheet of white card stock. Note: Make sure you adjust your printer's setting to print 'borderless' if available.

7. Trim the watermelon and lime panels to 4x5.25 and the striped panel to 5.25x1.5"; trim the sentiments into the rectangles. Using scissors or a craft knife, trim the graphics, leaving a small white border.

8. Score and cut the second sheet of card stock into two folded 4.25x5.5" card bases.

9. Assemble the cards. Note: I inked edges with Fuchsia and Leaf Hybrid Inks, and used pop-dots to adhere the sentiments and graphics.

Easy-Peasy, Lemon Melon-Squeezy!

The next time you need a card or two, look no further than your digital kit for some hybrid inspiration!

Thanks for stopping by!

February Card Sketch Challenge

Happy Friday, everyone!

Whenever I need to give my crafty mojo a kick in the pants I head on over to the Forum. There are lots of fun challenges to choose from. My favorite is the Card Sketch Challenge hosted by Marya. Check out this fun sketch she created for the month of February.

Full details of the challenge can be found on the Forum HERE. Here's how I made my version using the sketch as inspiration:

Cut a 4 x 5 1/4" panel from the dotty Neutral Pattern Basics paper.
Use scoring board to create a diagonal grid on the reverse side of panel.
Score panel in 1/2 inch increments in both directions to create diamond pattern.
Flip paper over and ink with Club Scrap's Hybrid Earth ink, hitting the raised score lines.

To finish the card, print checkers and playing cards from the Big Deal Digital Kit onto matte photo paper. Cut out and attach to the front of card with pop dots to create dimension. Stamp the Happy Birthday and flourishes from the Big Deal Greetings UM sheet onto Ivory cardstock using Club Scrap's Hybrid Earth Ink.

Create an A2 card base from Ivory cardstock from the Big Deal kitLayer the Dark Gray and Ivory cardstock strips onto a piece of the tan grosgrain ribbon.

I hope you enjoyed this card and if you need inspiration what better place to find it than in our Community Forum!

Have a great weekend! Boot Camp starts tomorrow, OOO RAH!

Neon Card Mash Ups

Good Monday Morning Everyone!

I missed you all last week. While I was away from the blog, I was busy creating this colorful array of cards using a "Mash Up" of kits. I created backgrounds using an art orphan and print outs from this month's Graffiti digital kit. I used papers from the Science kit (the orange/yellow, blue, and purple) that worked so well with the prints from this month's kit and an assortment of past kit stamps.

So sit back and relax while I take you on a little tour of how I created some of my cards.

1. Print out the black and white digital print from the Graffiti Digital kit.
before
2. Grab your Neon Dabbers and color to your hearts content! I had so much fun with this. I added a bit of white paint dauber swipes to areas that were too dull gray for my liking. It lightened the piece up a bit.

3. Let your paper dry and then add interest to your colored piece using a white Uni-ball Signo Broad pigment ink pen.
After
4. Print out some of the other colorful prints to use for backgrounds for your cards on matte photo paper.
5. Marya and Anne Marie host a card sketch challenge on the Club Scrap Community Forum and I created these cards using tissue tape colored with Neon Dabbers. I also used the fun mini chalkboard as my template for the hole to be cut out of the front of the card.
6. Stamp the "you are 2 COOL" images in white dauber paint (make sure you clean off your stamps so the paint doesn't dry on them) and add a bit of Neon Pink Dabber ink to the outside edge of the chalkboard. Trace the chalkboard with white pen and cut with a craft knife.
7. Save the cut out to be used on a second card. Check out this LINK to learn how to create a dimensional star. Do you recognize this art orphan I used for the background paper? It was created using the plastic wrap technique I shared on a previous blog post which you can find HERE. Stamp the Take Wing greeting directly onto the background paper.

8. Stamp the Graffiti spritz drip image in all the Neon Dabber colors to create this rainbow effect.  Stamp directly over the image when dry using black ink using the Take Wing stamps.
9. Now it is time to create your A2 cards. Cut black and white 8.5x11" cardstock horizontally at 5.5 and score each 5.5x8.5" piece horizontally at 4.25".  This will result in two A2 size greeting card bases from each sheet of cardstock.

Here are all the cards I created using the above techniques.
