Part 2: Full Color 3D Stamping

In Part 1: Black & White 3D Stamping, I shared how this piece of artwork inspired me to create a similar image using only my unmounted rubber stamps and some black Gelatos. Want to see how these stamped images can be turned into full color works of art with amazing dimension?

Here's how! Follow steps 1-6 previously discussed in Part 1.

Let's review.

1. Choose simple stamp images.
2. Stamp foreground image, Papillon butterfly in CS® Hybrid Ocean Ink.

3. Stamp on Post-it note to create mask.

4. Fussy cut image from Post-it note.
5. Mask the corresponding image and stamp. 

* Note- Use second generation stamping to create lighter stamped images.

6. Create additional masks and continue stamping.

*note- Use only the top portion of the Hydrangeas Art Nouveau leaves image.

7. Use Gelatos and a water brush to color in your images and add a shadow to create the illusion of depth. I created a video tutorial on adding a shadow to your stamped images. If you are having trouble viewing the video, click HERE.



Apply more color toward the outside of the image and lesser amounts toward the center. For example, when painting the leaves, use a darker shade of green toward the outside of the image and then leave a white highlight in the center by adding very little color or no color at all to the center of the leaf.

Continue to add metallic purple and blue Gelatos with a water brush, where the butterfly and Hydrangeas stamped blossoms overlap. Add black Gelato to these areas for even more dramatic shadowing.

Every month our members are treated to a free sketch with detailed assembly line instructions. This recipe can be used to create layouts with any papers from your stash. My layout came together nicely using cardstocks from Written Word, Bridges, Trees and a Pattern Basics Bright text print.

The UM story, and a quickie tutorial:

There's usually a lot of back and forth, choosing what works, and what doesn't, before the designers settle on the final product you see each month. The August unmounted stamps were no exception. I happened to be conveniently located nearby when the Tribal  UM discussion took place. There was a large open space where a previous idea had been scrapped that needed filling. I casually mentioned how much I liked the look of the symbols, but wish I knew what they meant. Once Jac provided the translations, I suggested it might be cool to pair those words with the art. Imagine how excited I was when I saw the final proof of the Tribal Collection UM sheet!

Since a picture's worth a thousand words, here's a step-by-step photo tutorial.

Paint inexpensive 5x7 frame with black acrylic paint.

Spritz Memories Mist onto Tribal Lite Masking Stencil.

Pretty!

Stamp UM image with India Black Ink.

Decorate frame with Gold Playcolor Metallic paint.

Voila!

It's Font Week. (Not Shark Week.)

Hey, there!

Have you ever heard of Shark Week? Since it airs on the Discovery Channel in August, you only have to wait about 216 more days to watch it. In the meantime . . .

If you don't know how to use unmounted stamps, you might want to take a look at this how-to video. I love that they take up far less space than traditional wood mounted stamps.

Unmounted alphabet stamps pose a unique set of challenges, but also have awesome advantages. For example, unlike alphabet stickers, you never run out of letters!!! Don't you just hate that when you're trying to spell out "Emily's Excellent Adventures" and it looks like " mily's  xc ll nt Adv ntur s"? Ugggh. If you're using stamps, that will NEVER happen.

Using UM fonts is also less time consuming and costly than punching or cutting and adhering letters from expensive hand held or electronic die cutting equipment. Since my patience level is generally on the low side of things, stamping out a page title with UM fonts runs at my peak, but I always enjoy the results. No tweezers or mini glue pens required!

Rather than take tons of photos to demonstrate my love for UM fonts, I decided to whip out the video camera, solicit Kay's assistance, and head to the studio. It's been a while.

Gotta love 'Um.

UM=Unmounted...as in "unmounted" rubber stamps.

After 10+ years at Club Scrap, I have an insane number of more than my fair share of rubber stamps. I admit, the very first time I saw a sheet of UM stamps, I thought, "How in the heck are you supposed to stamp with those?" Well, thanks to a bit of tutoring from Tricia, I not only learned how to use UM stamps, but I learned to LOVE them! Now, I'm sure many of you blog readers are already fans, but if UM stamps are news to you, then I invite you to read on...

There are so many benefits...where do I start?

Monochromatic Serenity Card -- New Video!

It's already September 4th, but it's the first official business day of the month, and your kits are leaving the loading dock today! Finally!

To get you through the "in transit" days ahead, I thought you might like to view a quickie video on how to use just one inkpad and unmounted sheet to make a "monochromatic" card. This card uses our pretty Sapphire ink paired with the brand spankin' new Serenity CS Unmounted stamp sheet.

And just to make sure I wasn't leading anyone astray, I wanted to see if the method worked the same way when using a different sheet of CS Unmounted stamps with a different color scheme . . . this time, the lovely Amethyst ink paired with the BonAppetit CS Unmounted stamp sheet.

Here's the video, cuz we all know that a video is worth a billion words!

Makin' Merry In July With Vogue

Greetings fellow paper crafting enthusiasts!

After taking a look at Club Scrap's Christmas In July Sale I noticed the December 2010 Vogue Products available at a wonderful price, so why not treat myself to Christmas In July?!?!

Now that it's July, I have great wedding photos perfect for using with Vogue! (I was at the wedding, and believe me, it was pretty merry) I used the 12x12 Pearl Transulcent Print & the Grey 8x11 Transulcent Plain and then grabbed some black & white cardstock from my stash to use along with the Vogue papers.

(A little more about my merry usage of December's Vogue papers in July.)

Using another Pearl Transulcent Print, I torn out flower shapes to layer and use for embellishing, the Translucent paper gave my torn florals a more elegant look.

No glue was used to attach the layers together, I simply used a decorative brad.

Then attached the paper flowers to my layout using Glue Lines.

Since I had such nice results tearing the Pearl Transulcent Paper, I also tore the Grey Translucent to coordinate the look. The torn translucent paper has a neat white edge after being ripped and looks great layered up....

....so I went with it to matte the photo. Simple but cool.

 I also used the Milestones Unmounted Rubber Stamp Font for stamping the bride & grooms name, they were perfect in not taking up too much space, but being easy to read.

About the sticker below, it's my favorite little quote from this kit and just happens to be on the Vogue Jr Apha Stickers, so I had to include that for embellishing as well as the Vogue Journaling Cutapart.

What a great picture to end on - one that reads "Heaven give you many, many Merry days!"
