Envelope Punch Clay Pots

Marya and Anne Marie have extended their June Card Sketch Challenge on the Coffeehouse Forum into July. Thank goodness, since I have been so busy and am finally getting around to creating something based on this fun sketch!

The sketch reminded me of a vase so I decided to create some faux clay pots as the focal image for my card. Here is how everything came together.

1. Create pots using an Envelope Punch board. Punch the bottom corners off two small rectangular pieces of paper. Note: the rectangles are different sizes which create two uniquely-shaped pots when punched.

Trim off the top of the long flat pot to form the brim.

Trim the larger wide pot to a desirable height.

2. Cut slivers of Gelatos from the stick with a metal palette knife. Mix colors on an acrylic block with a small drop of gesso and water with a palette knife until a smooth consistency is reached.

3. Spread the terra cotta colored mixture onto the white paper pot pieces using the knife. Allow to dry.

4. Assemble the flat clay pot. Attach the brim with book binding glue and allow it to dry.

Assemble the card using the sketch and coordinating papers.

1. Create the foliage and flowers with punches and neon Fire and Ice "art orphans." Click HERE to get a refresher on my art orphan technique.

I used a trick I saw on Pinterest to create leaves for my violet plant. Trim the petals of a retro flower into pointed leaf shapes.  Super cute and easy! 

Add centers to the flowers with Liquid Pearls in Platinum Pearl.

Father's Day Gift Ideas

With Father's Day approaching quickly, it was time to put my thinking cap on! I scoured Pinterest and found a candy-filled mason jar. Since my hubby loves M&M's, I decided to load up a jar for him and make a custom neck tie with my new Picnic kit.

Here is how it all came together.

For the Tie:

1. Follow the step-by-step tutorial here to create a wax paper resist with the embossing folder included in your kit. (Run the wax paper through the machine twice, rotating the paper to create a cross hatch effect.)

2. Rub ink directly onto to the glossy papers to reveal the resist. This is my favorite part . . . MAGIC!

Apply Fuschia hybrid ink with a sponge applicator.

Wipe off ink with dry cloth to reveal wax resist.

Apply ink directly from the Lagoon hybrid ink pad.

Wipe away ink with dry cloth to reveal wax resist.

For the Mason Jar Assembly:

1. Download Christy's template for the collar and tie. Trace the collar template onto the back of the dark green Picnic paper and the tie shape onto the back of the blue wax paper resist paper. Cut out the shapes. * Note: Small mason jars work best for this project. I used a larger size jar and needed to add a bit of paper to the collar piece as it wouldn't fit around the circumference of the jar.

2. Attach the tie to the Dark Green shirt collar and wrap around the jar; secure with your favorite adhesive.

Ink the edges of the collar and tie for added dimension.

3. Use the Picnic Digital Kit with your photo editing software program of choice to create a lid topper.

4. Print the image on matte photo paper and cut a circled sized to fit the lid of the mason jar.

I just love the Picnic digital font! 

Additional card idea:

I was inspired by this fun card from the Splitcoast Stampers gallery. 

Follow these steps to create the card:

1. Use a 1.25x6” piece of from the wax resist technique to create a bow with an Envelope Punch Board and the steps found HERE.

The center of the bow tie measured .25x1" and I inked the edges of both the center and the bow tie. 

2. Layer the dark pink and dark blue papers onto a white card base. To create the collars, mark the center of each piece of paper and then cut a slit. The slit in the blue shirt is slightly shorter than the slit in the pink sweater. Fold the collars over at similar angles.

I just love the texture of the dark pink paper. 

3. Adhere two buttons from your stash to the pink sweater. Tip: Create faux thread by cutting a very thin strip of white paper and thread it through the buttons.

Good Wednesday Morning, Everyone!

I have to admit, when I first brought my Envelope Punch Board home from Retreat, I put it away in my craft room and there it sat. I didn't make a single envelope. After seeing a lot of folks making all sorts of different things with this board, including our very own uber-talented Tricia Morris, I knew I had to pull it out and experiment.

After watching a few how-to videos, and there are a lot of them, I was inspired to create this fun project.

I created four boxes using the techniques in this video.

The three small boxes fit nicely inside the larger box, and this box is attached to the back cover of the book. The cover is created using the wrapping and bookmaking techniques I have learned right here at Club Scrap. The two small boxes are 2" squares, the rectangular box is 2x3-7/8", and the largest square box is 4". The matte board covers are 4.25" squares and the spine piece measures 1.25x4.25".

I made this fun rick rack embellishment using the Envelope Punch Board.

I used the cutapart sheet from the 2010 Jubilee Brights collection along the sides of the box.

If you turn the boxes upside down you can keep small items from falling out if you are using the book for gift giving.

Using the left over pieces of paper from the Jubilee Brights collection, I tore one of the quotes out of the cutapart sheet, created a rosette from the Yellow, adorned the Red punched daisy center with red glitter glue, and made the Blue and White paper tails with the Envelope Punch Board by following this bow making technique.
