Sweet Genius Challenge

Good Monday Morning!

When I first became active on the Club Scrap Forum (aka Coffeehouse), I used to visit several of the challenge threads, but was too intimidated and shy to participate.   Little by little,  I became more familiar with my fellow Club Scrap members and finally joined in the fun.   Member Christine Ondine was the host of the Monthly Challenge.  She would ask folks to create artwork based on a theme of her choosing.   After several years of hosting,  life got in the way, and she asked if someone would be willing to take it over.  I jumped at the chance and have enjoyed hosting it for the past 2 years.

For this month's challenge I was inspired by the Food Network show Sweet Genius.
I gave the members ICE as the inspiration item, and 2 "ingredients" that they had to use in their artwork, LACE and GLIMMER MIST.   Armed with these instructions, I hope that members are inspired to create some "cool" layouts, cards and projects.   You can check out the Sweet Genius Challenge over at the Coffeehouse HERE.

In order to inspire members to create a piece of artwork for this challenge,  I set out to follow my requirements and create 2 double page layouts featuring photos from our New Year's Eve trip to North Conway, NH.  My brother and sister in law were renting a condo and invited us for a few nights.

To create the layouts I gathered four 12x12 sheets of cardstock from the Versailles kit.

I poured some silver Silk (this product was included in a Club Scrap kit called Girls Night Out) into a mini mister (about 2/3 full) and topped it off with water.   Shook to mix well.

I cut 2 lace paper doilies into quarters and used them as masks in the corners of these base papers and spritzed them with the Silks mist.  It gives the papers a silvery sheen.

I used the rest of my Versailles Kit to finish the pages.

We visited the Mount Washington Observatory Weather Museum.

The observatory simulator was very interesting.  It replicated what it was like during the highest recorded wind speeds atop Mt. Washington, over 200 mph.  The little building shook and the wind howled so loudly.

The temperatures during our stay were frigid.  We were totally amazed at the size of the icicles that formed on the side of the condo.  Some measured over 5 feet long.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.
I hope you will drop by the forum and join one of the many fun challenges offered by members.

I am looking forward to seeing you every Monday as Club Scrap has invited me to become a regular contributor to the Club Scrap Creates Blog.

Have a Great Day,

Julie Heyer

I go to the thrift stores and get all kinds of different laces and doilies and use the glimmer mists on them over photo paper to use for cards too. Every one of them turn out so different.

LOVE the idea of a Sweet Genius challenge!!! One of my favorite parts about that show is trying to imagine how I would use the two mandatory ingredients and connect it with the inspiration. Now I get to try it out here! Woo Hoo again!!!! I think Sweet Genius would be a cool regular challenge.. You alwayse have wonderful ideas!

  9. Congratulations Julie! I'm happy for you. Pretty soon you'll be living next door to the company! I'm assuming this is a scrapbooking challenge, but in the event that cards are ok, can we use something besides glimmer mist? I don't have any but I do have some smooch spritz.

    Congrats again!

    1. Hi Beth, nope, not a scrapbooking challenge at all. Any work of art at all. As you can see, I didn't use glimmer mist either, I made some Silks spray. So any kind of shimmery mist will work. Come play with us.
