Food (and Drink) Traditions

I was so excited when I heard that the theme for Club Scrap's June kit would be "Bon Appétit." You see, our society often commemorates an important event with food - birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and most major holidays (4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, etc.) all make food of some kind a central part of the celebration. And more often than not, it becomes traditional to celebrate with the same foods and beverages year after year (like Aunt Sally's Pumpkin Pie or Grandma's Sweet Potato Casserole). So this versatile kit would be perfect for all types of 'celebration' layouts!

Personally, I have another food (and drink) tradition - I've been going to the same restaurant (The Greenwood Inn) almost every Thursday night for over 20 years! It started with a few friends getting together for a couple of drinks and dinner (and Thursday was pay day, so what better night to go!) but now it's more than that. I must confess - I do go there on other nights as well, but Thursday night is tradition - seriously, I've walked in on a Tuesday night and had a bartender say to me, "Wait, is it Thursday already?" I know the owners, bartenders, waiters, and many of the customers - it's kinda like the old TV show, Cheers - where everybody knows your name!

Several months ago, just for the heck of it, I started taking a photo of our drinks on Thursday night and posting them to my Facebook account. My friend Anne saw my posts and convinced me that I should start a fan page for my drink photos (she's a marketer, after all, so thinks of things like that!), so the Thursday Night Beverages Fan Page was born. And I do post a new beverage photo every Thursday night, even if I"m not at the Greenwood Inn (last October, there's a photo of my glass of wine from Club Scrap's Retreat dinner!). Feel free to 'Like' my Thursday Night Beverages page on Facebook and see my new drink photo every week!

So what better way to celebrate Thursday Night Beverages than a layout with the gorgeous Bon Appétit kit? And since I'm more of a digi-scrapper than I am a paper scrapper, I naturally used the Bon Appétit Digi Kit!

Now that I've shared one of my food (or drink) traditions with you, I invite you to leave a comment and share one of your food traditions with me. I'll pick one of the comments at random and the winner will receive a free copy of the Bon Appétit Digi Kit - I'll announce the winner next Thursday in my blog post.

  5. Hello Ron,
I have been following your Thursday Night Beverages quite some time now and I love how this page is coming together. Yes this kit is just perfect and I asume there is more to come.
Our food tradition is on Sunday. It started with my dad making scrambled egg every Sunday and when i left the house, I just kept this tradition and my kids love it! It is still: "grandpa's scrambled egg"! I hope Yael will pass it on to the soon to my grandson that will be born soon! CHEERS! Hetty
