Big Deal Stencil Techniques--Part One

If you're a Lite member, your Big Deal kit leaves the warehouse today and it includes this fun pattern stencil. I came up with at least four ways to use the stencil, and I can't wait to share them with you!

Big Deal Lite Stencil
One stencil, four ways!

To create the awesome stenciled backgrounds shown above, there's a little prep work that will need to be done first.

Preparation
1. Use a card stock scrap or old credit card to spread white acrylic paint over the stencil as shown in the photo below. Do this step on a total of three 4.25x6.25" black panels and one 4.25x6.25" white panel.

 2. Set panels aside to dry, and clean the paint from the stencil.

Here are two great techniques you can use on your newly-created stenciled panels. (Stay tuned for my blog post tomorrow when I'll share the other two backgrounds I created.)

One Heart Highlight

1.  Select one heart to color with a marker. (I used Faber-Castell's Big Brush colors.)

2. Use a craft knife to cut around the bottom half of the heart.

3. Insert a stamped sentiment beneath the bottom edge of the heart.

4. Further embellish with mists and layer onto a 5x7" card base.

Sentiment from Big Deal Collection UM

Stamped On Stencil

1. Stamp the prepared panel with a small text image and India Black ink.

 2. Try a variation by stenciling onto a white panel with black ink. Stamp the text image with White Pigment ink. I used the Up, Up & Away Collection UM plate for the perfect text image.

 3. Add a sentiment from the Big Deal Collection UM and layer onto 5x7" card base.

As our RAK for YOU, we're giving away two $25 gift certificates to one lucky random drawing winner: One for the winner, and one as a RAK for someone they know.

To participate in the giveaway, leave a comment below, naming who you'd pick to receive the RAK gift certificate, and why. If your comment is chosen, you'll receive a $25 gift certificate to our online store for yourself, AND a second $25 GC to give away. 1. Sorry, I accidentally pushed the delete button. I'll try again.

I would RAK my friend Ellie Fannin who is struggling with terminal brain stem cancer. I've been papercrafting with her to lift her spirits, but she is very lonely and bored because she can't do much.

  9. OOooh, i love these stenciled backgrounds! I need to go through my other CS stencils and see what I can do... did I mention that the current NBUS challenge on the CS Forum is making a stenciled background? :) Thanks for the gift certificate giveaway. I'd give one to Bay in TN. Haven't heard from her in a while and it would be such a surprise!

  11. I am sooooo in LOVE with this stencil. Guess I need to order myself a lite kit! I really love the new stencils, so good for use with Gelli plates and art journals. Thanks CS!
I would share with my good friend Steph in NE. Haven't seen her in so long and she could use some cheering up as she is handling a difficult personal situation.

  12. I would choose Lynn Borders, she is one of the most caring friends I have supporting me with hugs and cards that show up just when I need them. She has made Club Scrap be so much more than just as paper company, but a true friend who shares so much of herself.

  13. I loved the stencil techniques used to make the backgrounds, I think I would RAK, Knitter Pam, because she is such a CS cheerleader, I'd like her to be surprised

  15. Thanks for the fabulous ideas for using stencils! I would send the RAK to my friend Gail. We used to work together and I turned her onto Club Scrap. Since I lost my job with that company and am now temporarily working in Chicago, I haven't seen Gail in more than a year. She has faced some difficult challenges, and a GC would be a great way to lift her spirits, keep her crafting with CS, and letting her know I miss her.

  17. Love stencils and these are great techniques.

I figure RAKs should truly be random, so, while I'd want the extra one to go to my best friend Alice Rolfe, if I won I'd want mine to go to Toni's friend Ellie Fannin (neither of whom - meaning Toni and Ellie - I know). Don't get me wrong...I'd love a gift certificate for CS, but, on RAK Day, I'd rather give them both away.

    Thanks for a possible opportunity,

    Roxane (bossann)

  19. I'd choose my cousin Karen, who's not a CS member, but loves all my stuff (and I share whenever I can. :)

  20. I love your cards, Kay!! I would RAK to my daughter, Kristen. She has been having abdominal pain since October and I would like to cheer her up a little. She's been through the mill with tests and surgeries. Now the other day, she found a large lump near her left breast. Now more tests and possibly surgery again

  22. I love the white acrylic paint with this stencil and the word stamp just makes it pop. I would RAK my friend Kathy Parrish. She moved to Georgia due to her job and away from all her friends. She could use a little cheering up.

  23. I would RAK my neighbor Karen, a scrapbooker and card maker but not a CS member (yet!). She has been so much more than her neighbor - there for us in the worst of times. I'd love to be able to surprise her.

  24. Love this stencil and I love these techniques! I'm going to echo Pam and say this would be fantastic for her stencil challenge and even for the card sketch challenge this month (hint, hint...)

As for the RAK, I would surprise my friend Colleen who scrapbooks her family's Army life adventures. I have a couple of Club Scrap friends who would always love a little treat, but as most of us have a mini-Club Scrap warehouse in our basements, I'd like to gift it to someone who doesn't know the joy of CS yet!

Generous RAK offer. I would give a GC to my oldest daughter who is going through a difficult time. She's been taking a lot of photos, but she doesn't do anything with them other than share on FB. :-)
