Fly-out Mini Book

Five months ago, I promised to make a little book for my neighbors to give to their foreign exchange student, Rita. I finally got around to creating it with the Dungarees collection, and I'm thrilled with how it turned out!

The sweet couple that lives next door had the chance to meet Rita's parents in Hungary. The photos in the book are from their day together.

The UM stamp image, ribbon and buttons were perfect for the cover.

The book opens in all directions with fun flaps and fold-outs.
Every flap has decorating potential!
The best part of the book is that the base is made from only one sheet of 12x12" paper.
You decide how to alter the paper flaps at the top of each section.
The pocket is made from the Dark Blue cutapart in the Embellishment Pack.
Attach the ribbon closure behind the photo layered onto the back of the book.

Such an adorable couple!
Even with all of the mattes and photos layered inside, the book still closes perfectly.
Follow the scoring/cutting instructions to create your own little mini book.

1. Score at 2-3/8 and 7-1/4. (This will make the horizontal lines as shown below.)

2. Rotate the paper one turn to the left to position the 2-3/8" scored area at the top. Score at 3-7/8, 4-1/8, 8 and 8-1/4".

3. Use a craft knife and ruler to remove the 1/4" sections within the top and bottom scored areas. Do not cut past the horizontal score lines.

4. Alter the length of the top or bottom flaps to add variety/interest to the album, or leave them "as is." Fold along all scored lines. Decorate each panel as you wish.

Have fun with this one!

Custom Card Deck Instructions

The easiest part of this project is the simple book assembly. Filling it with 52 of something is where the real work begins! Follow along, and we'll lead you to mini bookmaking success!

Supplies Needed:
Big Deal Custom Card Deck Project Kit
Big Deal Stickers
Big Deal Ivory Cutaparts
(4) Gold Eyelets (Included in Big Deal Embellishment Pack)
Scissors, Ruler, Craft Knife, Cutting Mat
Ruler
Foam Brush, Bookbinding Glue and Bone Folder
Crop-A-Dile and Corner Chomper

1. Round the corners of the two matte board covers with the 1/4" setting of the Corner Chomper.

2. Use a pencil and ruler to measure and mark 3/4" from the short edges, and 1/4" from the long edge of the matte boards.

3. Punch the marked area with the largest hole of a Crop-A-Dile.

4. Glue the matte boards to the Tan outside covers. Round the corners of the covers with the 1/2" setting on the Corner Chomper.

5. The rounded corners pose a unique challenge for wrapping the cover. (No big deal!) Cut two v-shaped darts into the corners, as shown. Do not cut directly to the edge of the matte board.

6. Cut two additional darts to remove additional excess paper.

7. Brush glue onto the corner flaps and wrap around the corners. (Now would be a good time to mark the location of the punched holes in the cover wrap. We did not remember to do this.)

8. Repeat the process for the remaining corners on both covers.

9. Use the tip of the bone folder to shape the paper around the corner.

10. Glue the long and short flaps onto the inside of the cover. Burnish with a bone folder.

12. Round the corners of the Tan inside cover papers with the 1/4" setting on the Corner Chomper.

13. Glue the inside covers onto the wrapped matte boards.

14. Punch holes through the inside/outside covers with the Crop-A-Dile in the same location. Or, if you lost the original hole location, simply re-measure, mark, and punch. (Not that we'd know anything about that.)

15. Set a gold eyelet into each punched hole.

16. Trim the outside edges from the "Play On" and "The End" Ivory cutaparts with a ruler, craft knife and cutting mat. Round the corners with the 1/4" setting. These two cutaparts were not used in the ALSB layout instructions.

17. Adhere the "Play On" cutapart to the outside front cover. Punch holes in the deck of cards to match the location of the holes in the cover. Note: We were able to punch six cards at a time with the Crop-A-Dile. Thread the cards and covers onto the binding rings.

18. Adhere the "The End" cutapart to the inside back cover.

19. Align the printed guideline on the numeric stickers onto the upper right edge of each card. Wrap the sticker around to the back of the card.

20. Enjoy the potential! Fill the book with photos, lists, reminders, reasons, ideas, etc.

Stay tuned for some of our deck-finishing ideas, and be sure to share yours, too! What will you put inside?

Have fun . . .

Club Stamp Project Spoiler Alert!

Friday Greetings from Kay here at Club Scrap!

It's already the 15th, so that means Deb and the CS Crew are busy shipping the Club Scrap Lite Kit! On top of that, we need to get ready to ship the Club Stamp collection on the 20th. I'm tickled to show off the March Club Stamp Project--The Card Keeper! Once again, I'm a little early on this, but luckily I've gotten away with it before, so I think it'll be alright :) I'll have to be sure to bring Tricia a really good carb free snack tomorrow!

This is The Card Keeper. It's attractive, but also functional. Check out the wide spine with lots of room to store cards.

This will be handy on my desk for keeping greeting cards ready to go! The cards slide in and out of the elastic cords easily, and there are handy pockets for envelope and stamp storage.

Stamping on the cover was a must with this month's Bookshelves unmounted rubber stamps, along with the Borders & Backgrounds, Art Nouveau and Greeting sheets.

Funny story. When Tricia and I were photographing the step-outs for the project instructions, we had an "oops" moment. After the front cover was perfectly stamped, wrapped and nearly complete, she installed the inside pockets UPSIDE DOWN. I fixed it by adding the nested panel that you see below. So, a warning. Don't be like us, blabbing away as you make the project and messing it up on the last step!

Along with the March project, there will also be variations available including Textiles & Notions, Bon Appetit and paper-less! All of my inside pockets were installed correctly. Just saying. Won't they look nice on my bookshelf?

The Come Sail Away version below was made with the paper-less kit, so I just used goods from my stash.

For those of you that are Club Stamp members and receive the project - enjoy! Not a member? There's never been a better time to join us!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Lots Of Creativity In The House!

Knock, knock...

What a great place for a door-shaped mini album, on a handmade house!

This is my kind of neighborhood . . .

Maybe it's a little early to be talking about the Club Stamp project since it doesn't ship until next week, but I'm excited about it today and Tricia seems to be allowing spoiler-type behavior for the moment, so I gotta run with it, right?

The details will be in the upcoming Stamp Rap and the Club Stamp Project instructions, but here are a couple of pics to open the door to creativity!

The kit will make the house, base, and two darling door-shaped mini albums. One album becomes the front door and the other is stowed away inside the house.

The other thing that always thrills me is that there will be paperless/nekkid versions of the project available! I just had to create this one with my own house number over the door.

The door to creativity is wide open with this cute unique project, and I'm gladly puttin' out the welcome mat!

Creatively yours,
Kay
