A Big, Fat Book of Wine

I admit to enjoying a lovely glass of wine now 'n then. Cab Sav, Sauv Blanc, Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, and even a buttery Chardonnay now 'n then. You?

Ever since we released our Uncorked Collection Unmounted stamps, I've had a vision for this little wine tasting journal.

I finally decided to make one. I think I might give it as a Christmas gift to my wine buddy, Scott Carney, if I can part with it. Scott knows way more about wine than I do, so he'd take far better tasting notes in this journal.



Tricia's Notes: Gee, this one is tasty. Buy this again.
Scott's Notes: Lovely vintage, but could use a year or two of aging. Spicy finish with nice tannins.

OK. Sorry. Back to the "book of wine". I love this project. I really do. I loved every minute of making it. Except punching the holes. Not a fun job.

Supplies:
Uncorked Unmounted Stamps
(4) pkg. Gimme a Ring Drop a Line Journaling Cards (Plain Side)
Sorrento Newsprint Thickers
Sorrento and Equestrian Fibers
(6) 12x12 Sheets All That Jazz Dark Brown Print (seconds)
(2) 3-3/8x4" Matte Board
8.5x11 Sorrento Ginger Print
Crop-A-Dile
(2) 2" Binding Rings
CS® Bookbinding Glue
Foam Brush
Bone Folder
12" Paper Trimmer
CS® Earth and India Black Inks
CS® Grid Ruler

1. Stamp the unmounted "tasting notes" image onto the back of each journaling card with Earth ink.

2. Trim each 12x12 Dark Brown Print into nine 3.25x3.75" pieces. (Trim at 11.25, 7.5 and 3.75". Cut each 3.75x12 horizontally at 9.75, 6.5 and 3.25".) Nest one journaling card onto the right edge of a panel. Center the grid ruler onto the panel, 1/4" from the left edge. Mark holes for punching at center, and 1.25" above and below center. Punch holes.

3. Trim the 8.5x11 Sorrento Ginger Print vertically at 6". Trim the 6x11 horizontally at 5.5". Cut the 2.5x11 horizontally at 6.5 and 3.25". (This will create two 5.5x6" outside covers and two 2.5x3.25" inside covers.) Glue the matte boards to the center of the outside covers.

4. Mitre the corners and wrap the flaps. Glue the inside covers in place. (For a great tutorial on this process, please watch this Essentials Video on wrapping!)

5. Place the punched inside page onto the inside back cover with the left edge of the page flush with the left edge of the cover. Mark the location of the holes onto the cover and punch.

6. Transfer the location of the holes on the back covers onto the front cover and punch.

7. Transfer punched holes to all of the panels and attach the journaling cards. Thread the covers and journaling pages onto the binding rings. Decorate the front cover with those adorable newsprint Thickers featured in the Sorrento JR kit.

8. I added a few extra pages to the book to be used as dividers for "reds," "whites," and "other" categories.

8. Tie a bunch of ribbon and fiber onto the rings. Yummy!

So, should I keep it? Or should I hand it off to the winemaster. Decisions, decisions.

Santa's Belt Gift Card Holder

Hey, Holiday Crafters!

Planning to give some gift cards this year? As a paper crafter, if you plan to give them, thou shalt not use a lame, white, undecorated envelope! Heavens, no!

I was "Pinspired" one day and adapted a cute gift card holder project into a new cutting formula. The "belly band" that holds it all together reminded me of Santa's belt and was the inspiration for my color choices. But you could certainly take this in any direction, depending on the season.

You'll need:
8.5x11 Red
8.5x11 White
8.5x11 Black
2012 WOW Holiday Rubber Stamps
12" Paper Trimmer
CS® Grid Ruler, Craft Knife and Cutting Mat
Scoring Tool and Bone Folder
Cutting Direction-following Skills
Gift Card

1. Trim each 8.5x11 vertically at 8, 7 and 4.25".

2. Cut each 2.75x11 horizontally at 10.75, 9.75, 8.5, 6, and 3.5".

3. Trim each 1.25x2.75 horizontally at 1.5".

4. Trim each 1x2.75 horizontally at 1.75".

5. Cut each 1x11 and .5x11 horizontally at 8". (Wowza. That's a big 'ole pile of pieces! Any piece marked with an "x" in the diagram will not be used.)

6. Score each 4.25x11 vertically at 3.25". Rotate the pieces horizontally with the score at the top. Score at 4 and 8".

7. Use a ruler, craft knife and cutting mat to remove the 1x7" scored area from each piece, as indicated on the diagram. Fold up the 1" flap and secure with narrow tape to create a pocket.

8. Interchange the paper colors, and nest the 2.75x3.5 and 2.5x2.5" mattes onto the card holder.

9. Nest the .5x8 strip onto the 1x8" strip and adhere at just one end. (If you secure the other ends before wrapping the band around the gift card holder, the band will not fit properly.)

10. Wrap the nested band around the card holder to create the "belt" and secure at the other end. Position the pre-secured end of the band at front and center so that the seam will be covered.

11. Nest the 1x1" square onto the 1.25x1.25" square and place on the seam of the belt. Interchange the colors as you like!

I've Uncorked My Autumn Garden

Autumn Greetings from Kay here at Club Scrap.

I've had the pleasure of making a few little projects with the new Uncorked and Autumn Garden collections and thought I'd share.





First, the Autumn Garden Unmounted Stamps and Stencil. Oh, boy, this is a fun one!!! The pumpkin UM and the pumpkin stencil images are sized to work perfectly together! Check it out.

First the rubber stamped pumpkins,

now the stenciling right over the rubber stamped pumpkins.

So cool how they work together to create this artistic look!

While I was having so much fun with the stencil, I added a little black marker to the stenciled letters.

I say, let the fun continue!!!

Now about the mum on the stencil.

I started by adding a thin coat of white acrylic paint onto a text print.

Then stenciled the mums onto the paper with a foam brush and acrylic paint.

If you use a rag to apply paint to the stencil, it creates a softer look. 

Then I added a few finishing touches.

And let the fun continue!!

I'm so glad we finally got to pop the cork on this collection. Here is a BDay card I whipped up with the new Uncorked Unmounted Rubber Stamps and round kraft coaster Sticker Labels. (Those sticker labels are included in the collection!)

I couldn't resist making my wine glass half full by adding some wine to the rubber stamped glass. I used a wet brush to simply pick up the color from an ink pad. Easy!

I can imagine many stamping and stenciling techniques happening with these new items, and I didn't even break into my stash of beautiful papers in the Uncorked and Autumn Garden collections! That's next . . .
